Yes, In lieu of the minimum wage, you may temporarily pay an employee under age 20 the rate of $4.25 per hour during his or her first 90 consecutive days of employment-this is known as the opportunity wage.
Subminimum wages are also available for learners; apprentices; certain workers with disabilities; students in retail or service establishments, agriculture, institutions of higher learning establishments and working for schools; employees in American Samoa; and messengers.
